A Case Study – Task Addition and Schedule Optimization

Main feature of the app was for managers to create tasks and assign them to servicemen. In turn, servicemen had the option to optimize their own daily schedule based on time, distance, and number of tasks.

Challenge

Design an intuitive system (web and android app) for managers and servicemen to create and log tasks, ensuring that the appropriate equipment is at hand, deadlines are met, while keeping the interface user friendly and following Material Design standards.

Use cases
  • Create and assign tasks to servicemen.

  • Offer the option to optimize individualized schedules based on time, equipment, and distance.

  • In-app navigation with reminders.

  • Live tracking.

Approach
  • Conducted workshops to understand the context of use and its limitations.

  • Defined possible features that can make the proof of concept acceptable.

  • Sketched tablet-first layouts prioritizing easy navigation and info hierarchy.

  • Created interactive prototype for presentation.

Impact
  • Eatech Oy licensed the project for further development.
